Bob
Colgan – Wrestling Official
50 Year Tribute
Everyone knows there would be no interscholastic sports
without
the student-athletes. Having said that, there would be no
contests without PIAA officials and/or umpires.
These PIAA representatives work to promote the rules, fairness in play,
safety, and good
sportsmanship. The District IX Committee would like to
pay special recognition to an individual who has devoted 50 years
to officiating wrestling in District IX.
Mr. Colgan, a 1970 graduate of Brockway Area High School was a member
of the football and wrestling team for the Rovers. He was a two-year starter
for the wrestling team and has been involved ever since with the sport.
He began his referee career during the 1972/1973 season and is
presently in his 51st year of officiating.
During these years, he did matches from the Junior Olympic level to officiating a
few college
matches, but through it all, he enjoyed meeting so many wrestling
fans who he is still in touch with today.
Over the years Bob has referred four generations of families who have been
involved with wrestling.
His officiating career includes thirty-five DIX individual championships, seven DIX
team Dual Championships, thirty-two class AA and AAA Northwest regional wrestling
championships,
eight PIAA Individual State Championships, and six PIAA Team
Championships.
In addition to his many years as a referee, he has served in several positions as an
officer of the Northcentral Chapter of PIAA Wrestling Officials. In the year 2019 Bob
was inducted into the DIX Wrestling Hall of Fame.
He is now retired
after 39 years working for Brockway Glass Company and is
enjoying his family and the outdoors. Bob is married to the former Diane Prechtl
who
he shares the pleasure of spending time with their four children along with their eight
grandchildren.
Thank you, Bob Colgan, for your 50+ years of dedication and hardwork.
Presenting Mr. Colgan with a plaque is Mr. Randy Cathcart, a past member of the
DIX Committee and longtime wrestling chairman and Mr. Peter Grecco, the current
wrestling chairman of District IX.
