DISTRICT 9 COMMITTEE MEETING

JUNE 14, 2017

      The District 9 Committee held the June 14, 2017 meeting at Aiello's Café in Ridgway, PA.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jim Manners.  The following members were present: Bud Brennen, Randy Cathcart, Mike Erickson, Scott Daum, Peter Grecco, Bill Howard, Jim Manners, Dave Osborne, Matt Splain, Aaron Straub, Bob Tonkin, Bill Vassallo,  and Bonnie Wolbert.

      A motion was made by Randy Cathcart and seconded by Scott Daum to approve the minutes of the April 2017 meeting.  The motion carried unanimously.

FINANCE:

      A motion was made by Bill Howard and seconded by Bill Vassallo to approve the April, May and June treasurer's reports.   The motion carried unanimously.

      Accounts receivable were reviewed.

      Financial reports were presented for all District 9 spring sports. 

      The financial report of the Annual Principals Luncheon was reviewed.                                  

      Ticket prices for various District 9 events will be an agenda item at the August committee meeting.

      The annual District 9 Audit Meeting will be on July 17, 2017 at 9:00 at the Showers Field Complex in Dubois.  Any person interested in helping with the audit please contact Mike Erickson or Bob Tonkin.

CHAIRMAN'S UPDATE:

Chairman Manners gave a summary of the May 2017 Board of Directors meeting.

The purpose of the PIAA Competition Committee was discussed.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

      The 2017  -  2018 District 9 Calendar dates will be set at the August meeting.

      A motion was made by Randy Cathcart and seconded by Bill Vassallo to retain Tom Elling as the District 9 webmaster.  The motion carried unanimously.

The method of producing District 9 championship programs will be retained for one more year.  The process will be reviewed next year.

      Teams that enter District 9 tournaments and then chose not to participate in the tournament was discussed.  A motion was made by Scott Daum and seconded by Bill Howard to add  a statement to the entry information sent to schools about possible sanctions the district committee could place on a school that does not participate. The motion carried unanimously.

      The need for contracts between the PIAA, District 9, and local colleges and universities was discussed.

TRANSFER and HEARINGS:

      A motion was made by Bud Brennen and seconded by Bill Howard to limit athletic ineligibility for a student transferring from Kane Area High School to Elk County Catholic High School in track and field for a twelve month period.  The motion carried with one abstention. (Aaron Straub)

      A hearing was held dealing with an athletic transfer from DuBois Area High School to DuBois Catholic High School.  The result of the hearing was the student-athlete was denied athletic eligibility for one year.

     

SPORTS COMMITTEES:

TRACK AND FIELD:          A time schedule and site for the 2018 "combined" AA and AAA track and field meet will be provided at the August meeting.

BASKETBALL:     The basketball committee met at 8:30 AM on June 14, 2017.  The results of the basketball committee meeting will be on the August agenda.

BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL:           The starting date for the baseball and softball tournaments was discussed.  The baseball and softball chairmen attempt to avoid conflicts in baseball and softball playing dates.  Both tournament directors are concerned with postponing games because of weather conditions.

      A motion was made by Bill Vassallo and seconded by Aaron Straub to adjourn.  The motion carried unanimously.

The next District 9 Committee meeting will be on August 9th at Aiello's Café in Ridgway, PA.  The starting time will be 9:00 AM.

 

The 2016  -  2017 District 9 Audit Meeting will be held on July 17th at 9:00 AM at the Showers Field Complex in Dubois.
