
ALTOONA, Pa. – Four District 9 girls’ wrestlers won District 5-6-9 titles Saturday at Altoona, and Clearfield, on the strength of five second-place finishers, won the team title.
Curwensville had a pair of champions in McKenzie Astorino at 100 pounds and Brylee London at 142 pounds. Redbank Valley’s Iris Reitz won at 112 pounds, and Brockway’s Elysabeth Myers won at 170 pounds.
In the only District 9 vs. District 9 final, Reitz pinned Clearfield’s Ashley Rougeaux at 2:34 to move to 31-1 on the season. It was the second straight District title for the sophomore.
Astorino won a 3-0 decision over Bellwood-Antis’ Juliette Cuevas to win a championship in her freshman year. She is now 33-0 on the season.
London also won a title in her freshman campaign, scoring a 17-3 major decision over Central Mountain’s Austynn Falls. She is 32-7 on the year.
Myers, a sophomore, is now 22-2 after picking up a 7-5 win over Central Mountain’s Kendall Wagner in the championship bout at 170 pounds.
Clearfield had four additional second-place finishers.
Finley Gilbert was pinned at 3:31 of her 118-pound championship bout with Juniata’s Madison Bryner.
Angela Rougeaux was pinned at 2:18 of her 130-pound championship bout with Northern Bedford’s Emily Dennis.
Makayla Taylor was pinned at 1:30 of her 155-pound championship bout with Chesnut Ridge’s Viollete Lasure.
Jocelyn Nixon was pinned at 1:36 of her 190-pound championship bout with Central Mountain’s Ashlyn Miller.
Those five second-place finishers helped the Lady Bison win the team title with 129.5 points. Northern Bedford was second with 123 points, while Redbank Valley took fourth with 119.5 points, and Curwensville was fifth with 92.5 points.
D9 also had seven third-place finishers, including Redbank Valley’s Breanna Crawford (106 pounds) and Emma Cravener (142 pounds), Punxsutawney’s Evelynn Neale (112 pounds), DuBois’s Bryanna Wilmoth (124 pounds) and Calli Bash (130 pounds). Brockway’s Audriana Inzana at 190 pounds, and Curwensville’s Emily Neeper at 235 pounds.
Taking fourth out of D9 were Redbank Valley’s Libby Rapp at 118 pounds and Sarah Buzzard at 170 pounds.
Rounding out the qualifiers for the Central Regionals, being held at Milton High School, from D9 were fifth-place finishers Jenn Bougin of Bradford (100 pounds), Ellie Bodenhom of Punxsutawney (106 pounds), Kiah Grennawalt of Punxsutawney (148 pounds), and Allison Neeper of Curwensville (155 pounds).
