Mr. Straub is the longest-tenured member of the District 9 committee having served on the committee since 1989. He has been the committee’s chairperson since 2019. As the District 9 committee chairperson, he also serves on the PIAA Board of Directors.
Mr. Straub is the athletic director at Elk County Catholic and is in his 45th year in education in the 2023-24 school year.
Also the highly successful boys’ basketball coach at ECC, Mr. Straub holds the District 9 record for wins by a coach with 966, including 939 as a boys’ coach entering the 2023-24 season. The 2023-24 season will be his 42nd as the boys’ coach at ECC after serving as the girls’ coach for two years as well.
Straub said the reason he wanted to serve on the District 9 Committee was that it provided him with the opportunity to share his time and talents and assist student-athletes in having the best possible interscholastic athletic experience within an educational setting.
