BROOKVILLE – All baseball playoff games for Wednesday, May 22, have been postponed to Thursday, while all of the originally scheduled Thursday games have been moved to Friday.
The Wednesday games that were postponed included the D9 3A title game between Karns City and St. Marys, the D8-9 Class 5A subregional between DuBois and Allderdice, and the D9 Class 4A title game between Punxsutawney and Clearfield.
Those three games will now be on Thursday, May 23, as follows:
Class 3A Title Game: (2) Karns City vs. (1) St. Marys, 3 p.m. at Stern Field in DuBois
Class 4A Title Game: (2) Clearfield vs. (1) Punxsutawney, 6:30 p.m. at Showers Field in DuBois
Class 5A Subregional: Allederdice vs. DuBois, 4 p.m. at Showers in DuBois
Because of the games from Wednesday being moved to Thursday, the games originally scheduled Thursday are now Friday and are as follows:
Class 1A Semifinals: (4) Port Allegany vs. (1) DuBois Central Catholic, 4 p.m. at Brockway High School
Class 1A Semifinals: (3) Elk County Catholic vs. (2) Clarion, 4 p.m. at Stern Field, DuBois
Class 2A Semifinals: (3) Kane vs. (2) Redbank Valley, 6:30 p.m. at Showers Field, DuBois
Class 2A Semifinals: (4) Curwensville vs. (1) Moniteau, 4 p.m. at Showers Field, DuBois
District 9 baseball chairman Dave Osborne explained the reasoning behind the moving of the Wednesday games to Thursday and the Thursday games to Friday:
“Class 3A, 4A, and 5A all have sub-region games early next week. The teams who the District 9 teams would be playing are currently not playing in a tournament and will have a full complement of pitching waiting for our winners. Therefore, moving the 3A, 4A, and 5A games to Thursday as opposed to Friday would potentially allow the D9 teams to have the same situation in regards to pitching. In A and 2A. all teams are facing the same challenge of playing Friday and Monday. I also can’t see natural grass facilities being ready for Thursday given the rain today and the additional forecasted rain tomorrow.”
